Istiqamah dalam Pembelajaran Al-Qur'an Pespektif Imam Ibnu Katsir

Abstract

Qur’anic education in Indonesia continues to face challenges related to literacy quality and the sustainability of learning practices. Although general literacy indices indicate a relatively positive trend, disparities in reading proficiency and the internalization of Qur’anic values remain evident. This condition suggests that the issue of Qur’anic education is not merely technical or methodological, but also conceptual, particularly regarding the integration of foundational Islamic values into pedagogical frameworks. One such fundamental value is istiqamah (steadfastness), which has been widely discussed in theological discourse but has not been systematically constructed within the framework of Qur’anic learning. This study aims to analyze the concept of istiqamah in the Qur’an from the perspective of Ibn Kathir and to examine its relevance to contemporary Qur’anic education. The research employs a qualitative library-based approach using thematic exegesis focused on a single exegete. Primary data were derived from Tafsir al-Qur’an al-‘Azhim by Ibn Kathir, while secondary sources included classical tafsir works and scholarly literature on Islamic education. Data were analyzed through descriptive-analytical procedures, including conceptual identification, thematic categorization, and pedagogical synthesis. The findings reveal that istiqamah, according to Ibn Kathir, encompasses three interrelated dimensions: normative-legal steadfastness in obedience to divine commands, theological-spiritual consistency grounded in pure monotheism and sincere intention, and socio-educational perseverance supported by a righteous environment. These dimensions form an integrative conceptual model that links textual interpretation with educational application. This study contributes theoretically by constructing a multidimensional model of istiqamah based on classical exegesis and practically by offering a value-based framework for strengthening sustainability in Qur’anic learning. The research highlights the importance of integrating theological concepts into pedagogical structures to enhance both the moral and intellectual development of learners.
